Margaret “Midge” Della Monica, age 81 of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the CT Hospice. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Della Monica, Sr., her husband of 61 years.
Midge, a proud lifelong member of the Shelton community, was born on March 7, 1931 to the late James and Susan (Papale) Canganelli.
She was employed by the State of CT’s Department of Health until her retirement after 30 years of dedicated service. Margaret later worked in the City of Shelton Town Clerk’s Office for 5 years.
She was also very involved in the St. Joseph’s community, often lending her time and talents to the St. Joseph’s Carnival, the St. Joseph’s School’s Mother’s Circle, and the Rosary Society. Midge was also a Paul Harris Fellow of the Shelton-Derby Rotary Foundation.
Margaret is the loving mother of Anthony Della Monica, Jr., D.V.M. and his wife Debra, and Lyn Baumgartel; and the beloved grandmother of Susan Baumgartel, Joseph Baumgartel and his wife Alexis, Dana Della Monica, and Daniel Della Monica and his wife Jodi. She is also survived by her sisters Assunta “Sunny” Rak and Genevieve Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Vincent Canganelli, Joseph Canganelly, Helen Capece, and Ann Constantino.
On Friday,(TODAY) friends and family are invited to call from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Saturday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Shelton. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Margaret Della Monica Memorial Fund.
