Police and special response teams raided a Perry Avenue apartment Thursday morning, following a month-long investigation into heroin sales in downtown Shelton, according to police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky.
Shelton Police, with assistance from The Southwest Region 2 Special Response Team, and a New Haven Police Armored Unit executed a search and seizure warrant on apartment 27B Perry Ave. at 8:45 a.m., arresting resident John Thompson, 29.
The search was conducted after three of Thompson’s children had already gone to school, police said. One child, two years old, was sleeping in a crib and removed by EMS without incident, Lt. Kozlowsky said.
Thompson was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of heroin within 1,500 feet of a school with intent to sell. He was also charged with four counts of risk of injury to a minor, because of his children.
Police seized approximately $1,000 worth of heroin from the home, packaging materials, and an unspecified amount of cash.
The Southwest Region 2 Special Response Team is a tactical unit comprised of Milford, Ansonia, West haven, and Orange Police Officers.
