There are many who support community projects, churches, charitable organizations and the like throughout Shelton and their donations of time, money, advice do make a difference in the lives of many.
It is humbling to know and or to even be acquainted with these people. They stand on head and shoulders above those who have a hundred reasons not to volunteer or step up to be counted when there is a need and even more inspiring when they take on some of nature’s most grueling tests of strength and stamina to support and help others.
We have such a person in Shelton, Ms. Ann Louise Onton, a 73 year old aquatic wonder woman who is scheduled to swim the English Channel in August during the “Neap Tide”. Her goal is not to be the oldest female to make the crossing, but if she completes the swim she will hold that title. She truly wants to raise funds for the Christine Morandi Fund through the “St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound Fund” to support the families and children of those suffering from cancer. Morandi was a marathon runner, cyclist, triathlete and philanthropist who who used her own funds to purchase aquatic equipment for children before she passed from cancer at age 46.
Ms. Onton is organizing a tag sale at her home on 50 Old Dairy Lane in Shelton on July 15-16 2017 (11A to 6P) to support the Christine Morandi Fund. She will accept items to sell in support of her swim or accept cash donations. Donations can also be made directly to the Christine Morandi Fund via USPS to St. Vincent’s Foundation 2800 Main St., Bridgeport CT 06606 or online to http://give,stvincents.org/DonationNow.
Each of us has a memory or may be living, assisting a person who has cancer and can understand that the disease is horrible as it not only takes away a loved one but can devastate a family and its children. Your donations and prayers for those who can be helped through Ms. Anton’s dedication to the Christine Morandi Fund would be very much appreciated.
