Police search for clever purse thief

Police are looking for a purse thief who tricked a Shelton woman into leaving her purse unattended while shopping at the TJ Maxx on Bridgeport Avenue.

On July 27, a 64-year-old Shelton woman was shopping at TJ Maxx when she was approached by a hispanic female suspect who asked if she would be willing to try on an article of clothing because she had the same figure as the person she was buying for.

The victim agreed and tried on the piece of clothing for the woman. When the woman exited the dressing room she returned to her cart to see that the female suspect had left and her purse was stolen.

Later that day, the victim discovered $4,187 worth of charges on her credit card made at the Apple store in the Trumbull mall.

If anyone recognizes the woman in the photographs they are urged to contact the Shelton Police Department at 203-924- 1544.
