The Shelton High girls soccer team received first-half goals from Leya Vohra (33:03) and Mackenzie Joyce (7:37) and a second-half score from Kelly Hurd (22:10) en route to a 3-0 blanking of Joel Barlow of Redding at Finn Stadium on Friday night.
The Gaelettes improved to 9-2-1 after winning the shots battle by a 31-1 margin.
It was the second win of the season for the SCC Gaels over a South-West Conference opponent. Earlier in the year, Shelton defeated Pomperaug High from Southbury.
It was the seventh shutout recorded this year by Shelton, which has now outscored its opponents, 36-5.
The loss dropped Barlow to 4-5-3.
“It’s always nice to step out of our conference and get a win,” said Shelton coach Marvin Miller, whose team returns to action on Monday against Sheehan of Wallingford. “We had a heart-breaking loss to them last year which was decided on penalty kicks. That makes this win even sweeter.”
