The Shelton High boys basketball team hoped that Senior Night would help the Gaels extend their season with a win over Hamden High at the Vincent J. Murray Memorial Gymnasium on Monday.
Coach Brian Gardiner’s club, in need of a victory to reach the eight-win plateau and qualify for the Class LL state tournament, fell to the Green Dragons by a score of 42-30.
Shelton couldn’t buy a basket for much of the game before a seven-point run brought the locals within 39-30 with 4:15 remaining.
Neither club scored for three-plus minutes and Hamden emerged with the victory that gave it an 8-10 record and a spot in the postseason.
Shelton (7-12) has one more chance. It visits North Haven (6-10) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
