Junior running back Jack Carr rushed for 137 yards on 14 carries and scored one touchdown while junior quarterback Jake Roberts ran for one score and threw for two more as the Shelton High football rolled to its eighth straight win by defeating Notre Dame of West Haven, 40-6, at frigid Finn Stadium on Friday night.
With the victory, coach Jeff Roy’s Gaels have clinched a berth in the Class LL playoffs.
“We played well on both sides of the ball tonight,” said Roy, whose team will be making it school-best fourth straight trip to the playoffs. “Jack (Carr) is back and he’s healthy. We need to stay that way as a team for the rest of the season.”
The Gaels scored twice in the opening quarter, and four more times in the second, in their Southern Connecticut Conference Tier 1 matchup with the Green Knights.
Roy had all of his starters out of the game early in the third quarter when ND scored its lone touchdown.
The Gaels will carry an 8-1 record into their traditional Thanksgiving Day game against Derby.
Notre Dame fell to 2-7.
