Snow days mean no spring break and school until June 21

Based on the snow days Shelton public schools have had so far, April vacation is down to a long weekend.

Before last Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting began, Superintendent Freeman Burr explained how the school calendar had changed so far because of several snow days. Blizzard Nemo and the aftermath caused schools to be closed for four days, with a delayed opening last Thursday.

“Right now, April vacation is down to Monday,” Burr said. “If we get more, April vacation is gone and we start adding to the end of the year.”

While students went back to school Thursday and Friday, they had another long weekend, with Monday and Tuesday off for February recess.

April vacation this year was set to be April 15-19 and is now down to Monday, April 15.

The board had previously agreed that snow days would first be taken out of April vacation before adding new days to the end of the school year, which was  tentatively scheduled for June 12, but now the last day is in fact June 21.
