Quick power outage impacts lower Bridgeport Avenue

About 3,000 United Illuminating customers in Shelton and Trumbull briefly lost power today at about 2 p.m. The outage lasted for 10 minutes.

Michael West, UI director of corporate communications, said the problem was related to “a transmission issue that was outside the service area. It impacted the Trumbull substation and was corrected rather quickly.”

The affected customers appeared to be in Trumbull and Shelton, including along the lower section of Shelton’s Bridgeport Avenue that has retail establishments and office buildings. A few traffic lights stopped working during the brief outage.

According to the UI website, the company has a total of 17,545 customers in Shelton and 13,825 customers in Trumbull.
