The Shelton Police arrested a Torrington man for allegedly sexually assaulting an underaged victim that he met online.
On Jan. 16 the Shelton Police Department arrested and charged Christopher Galvin, 45, of Torrington with fourth degree sexual Assault and second degree harassment. Galvin was released on a $5,000 bond and he appeared at Derby Superior court on Jan. 17.
According to a statement sent out by police, the arrest stems from a complaint taken by the Shelton Police Youth Bureau in March of 2017. The complaint stated that a 17 year old juvenile met Galvin in an online chat room in 2013 when she was 13 years old. Galvin allegedly presented himself as a 22 year old man at the time and the two became friends.
Police said that over time Galvin began to drive to Shelton to meet the victim.
According to Police, on Feb. 17 Galvin and the juvenile were parked in his car and she fell asleep. At that point Galvin sexually assaulted the juvenile while she was sleeping at which point she woke up and began to scream. After Galvin learned that the juvenile made a complaint to the police he continued to email and text message her trying to justify what he had done. Additional arrests are expected to be made in this case.
