Shelton Police arrested four individuals for stealing a vehicle and leading squad cars and State Police on a chase through Derby and onto Route 8.
On Sunday, Jan. 28 the Shelton Police attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Howe Avenue for a minor traffic violation. According to a statement from Detective Chris Nugent of the Shelton Police, the vehicle declined to stop and began to accelerate in an attempt to evade the pursuing officer.
Detective Nugent stated that when the pursuing officer ran the vehicle’s license plate it came back as being stolen.
The vehicle drove into Derby and entered onto Route 8 Southbound. Officers followed the vehicle from a “safe distance” as the vehicle entered onto Route 8 Southbound. The vehicle was said to have traveled southbound to area of Exit 11, where the vehicle turned around and began to travel Northbound on Route 8. The pursuit was terminated.
CT State Police responded to the area to assist Shelton Police, where the vehicle pulled off the highway in the area of Exit 13 Northbound.
According to police, the four occupants in the stolen vehicle were seen fleeing the vehicle on foot into the woods off the highway.
Police K9’s from Shelton Police Department and CT State Police were deployed into the wooded area off Exit 13, where they were all located and taken into custody.
The vehicle was confirmed to also have been stolen.
Theodore Joseph Reddick-Longley, 18, of West Haven was taken into custody and charged with interfering with police, third degree larceny, first degree criminal trover, and conspiracy charges in relation to these crimes. Reddick-Longley posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Feb. 9.
Three juveniles were also taken into custody after being located by Police K9’s in the wooded area. The juveniles are all scheduled to appear in juvenile court on related charges.
