Girls basketball: Shelton qualifies for state tournament

The Shelton High girls basketball team qualified for the state tournament with a 45-24 victory over Cheshire High on Tuesday.

Coach Joe Cavallaro’s Gaelettes are now 8-10.

They will host Guilford on Friday and visit Amity High on Tuesday.

Cheshire is 6-12.

Reem Abdel-Hack had 10 points, blocked three shots and had five rebounds.

Mackenzie Joyce had eight rebounds.

Maggie Howard and Leya Vohra combined for 11 steals.

Cheshire’s Emily Yanchy had 10 points and six rebounds.
