Swimming: Shelton Gaels place 8th at SCC meet

The Shelton High School boys swim team finished eighth as a team in the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship meet on Wednesday night at SCSU.

Coach Tom Jurzynski’s Gaels scored a total of 423 points.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Reid Chavez, Matt Richard, Matt Balcerzak and Korey Barber set a school record with a time of 1:34.30.

On that relay, Chavez’s lead leg also broke the school’s 50-freestyle record with a time of 22.74. The relay finished seventh.

The 200 medley relay of Marc Maleri, Matt Cristiano, Jack Marciano and Balcerzak finished eighth with a time of 1:47.84.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Barber, Richard, Cristiano and Chavez finished seventh with a time of 3:26.80.

Chavez finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:02.53) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:02.27).

Barber finished eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.39) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (55.66).

Marciano finished ninth in the 100 butterfly (57.31).
