The Bridgeport Bluefish will hold open tryouts for the baseball team on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard , with a live on-field scrimmage following the tryout.
“This is a great opportunity for a player to come to the ballpark and show off his skills in hopes to play at this level,” said Ken Shepard, Bluefish general manager. “We’re looking forward to hopefully finding players from the tryout to invite to spring training and join our roster.”
An administration fee of $75 will be charged to try out, with each registrant having the experience of being able to participate in a live game on the field at he Ballpark at Harbor Yard following the tryout.
Position players should report to the stadium in downtown Bridgeport at 9:30 a.m. for registration, while pitchers should report at 11 a.m. for registration.
Who is eligible to try out
Participants must be at least 18 years old. All those present should provide their career statistics and must supply their own wooden bats and baseball gloves. All participants will be required to sign a release form before trying out for the team.
Coaches and representatives from the Bluefish will be on hand to evaluate the players at the ballpark, including the manager, Willie Upshaw, a former Major League Baseball player. A group of Major League-affiliated scouts also will be in attendance to evaluate the prospects.
The day’s itinerary
The pro-tryout specifications will include:
—pop time (catchers)
—defensive drills (infielders and outfielders)
—position players hit in cage, and pitchers do light bullpen (pre-scrimmage)
—scrimmages begin at 1 p.m.
