Shelton High’s Kayla Resto will be playing softball at Division III Albertus Magnus College.
A star shortstop for coach Joanne Desrouchers’ Gaelettes, Resto was a four-year starter and collected her 100th career hit this past season.
“Kayla Resto was a captain. She played all four years in the varsity team, first at second and the last three years at shortsop,” Desrouchers said.
“A quote comes to mind when thinking about Kayla- — Tradition never graduates — the mark she has left on Shelton Softball is one of motivation, competitiveness and a true love of the game which will be a part of Shelton High School softball forever.”
Albertus competes at the Division III level in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Coach Ed Emielita’s Falcons posted a 30-15 record this past season and advanced to the GNAC semifinals
Captain of both the softball and basketball teams, where she was was a two-year starter and four-year letter winner, Resto twice earned spots on the Southern Connecticut Conference All Academic team. She won the Piccolo-Scarduzio Softball Award and was a Junior All-Star team selection. In basketball, Resto was voted to the All-Holiday Tournament team.
A member of the Spanish National Honor Society, Resto was a delegate on the Shelton High Sportsmanship Committee, a volunteer at Central High School’s City of Bridgeport Adult Ed Summer Program, and worked at both the Prime Time Basketball Camp and Shelton Little League Softball clinics.
