The Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day Road Race Committee recently announced that the 11th annual race held last Thanksgiving netted a donation of more than $11,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

With this year’s donation, the race has now raised more than $110,000 for the club since the first race in 2002. Event sponsor Greco & Haines spokesman Jeanne Connors said the company became the main sponsor not only to help make the race possible, but more importantly to help all of the children who benefit from the services offered at the club.

Boys & Girls Club President Shaye Roscoe said the race had helped thousands of local children participate in club activities.

“The dollars raised have a great impact on the thousands of children who have been members of the club in the eleven year history of the race,” she said. “We really appreciate Greco & Haines and all the other sponsors who have made this possible.” Roscoe also noted thanked the volunteersfor building the race from its inception to the Thanksgiving tradition that it has become.

The race is held every Thanksgiving morning and starts and ends on the Riverwalk in Shelton. But one of the unique aspects of the race is the course itself, which twice crosses the Derby/Shelton bridge on its way out and back to the Derby Public Library. This year’s race will again be held on Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. Registration begins in September and the race’s 700 spots sell out quickly.
