Al was born in New Bedford, MA on October 7, 1926 son of the late Antonio and Maria (Bellini) Fazendeiro. He was raised by his grandparents in Gouveia, Portugal. As a young man he moved back to the United States to pursue an education in California, but only made it to Danbury where he met his wife of 63 years Joyce Carol Skelly.
Al was a manufacturing engineer for 35 years at AVCO Lycoming where he helped produce materials that greatly enhanced the performance and durability of the turbine engine. He also worked on top secret military projects throughout his career. He kept those secrets to his grave.
Al proudly served with the Army during WWII. He enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, reading online, physics and mathematics.
He loved his family and was surrounded by his daughters, Darlene Mingrone and her husband Bob of Shelton and Cindy Gaudino and her husband Mike of Port St. Lucie, Florida. He found pleasure in tutoring his granddaughters Ariel and Felicia Mingrone in math, science and taught them how to swim. Al was a brilliant man and his memories as a patriarch of the Fazendeiro family will be cherished forever.
Al is predeceased by his brothers, Mac, Gus and Jack Fazendeiro.
His funeral services are private.
