Shelton group plans African violet show and sale

The Naugatonic African Violet Society of Shelton will present its 55th annual judged African Violet Show and Plant Sale on Saturday, April 20 from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Homewood Suites Hotel, 6905 Main St. (Route 110), Stratford.

African violets are Americans’ favorite house plant, according to show organizers.

Many varieties of violets

The “Violets in Wonderland” show will feature many varieties of African violets, including variegated leaf forms, miniatures, standards, chimeras and trailers. There also will be flower arrangements, planted gardens using African violets, horticultural exhibits and educational displays.

Local growers will be available to offer advice, and unique and new African violet varieties will be available for purchase.
