Mayor Mark Lauretti was among the municipal leaders to participate in TEAM Inc.’s Mayors for Meals Day as a part of the anti-poverty agency’s March For Meals annual program.
Lauretti and four other Valley elected officials went out on a route and assisted with delivering prepared food to Meals on Wheels clients in their towns. This allowed them to show their support for their community’s homebound and frail seniors.
Suzanne Reilly, family support services at TEAM, said mayors and first selectman from the agency’s service area “have been involved with our program in the past and the national Mayors for Meals Day is an excellent way to continue our relationship.”
The other participating leaders were Ansonia Mayor James DellaVolpe, Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri, Oxford First Selectman George Temple and Seymour First Selectman W. Kurt Miller.
Adams supermarkets played role
The Adams (IGA) supermarkets in Shelton and Derby assisted with March for Meals Month activities by selling “paper wheels” to support TEAM Meals on Wheels programs.
Throughout the Valley, TEAM’s four drivers deliver a daily meal to 214 homebound elderly residents per day. Last year, 52,919 meals were brought to 348 clients.
