Spring raking: Curbside bagged leaf collection starts Monday

The Shelton Public Works Department will conduct a week-long spring leaf collection. Public Works Director Paul J. DiMauro said leaves will be picked up curbside from Monday, April 29 to Friday, May 3.

Leaves in paper bags should be left at curbside on the regular trash collection day. Leaf bags should be kept apart from regular trash. Only leaves in brown paper biodegradable bags will be collected.

Also, to drop off leaves only, the compost site on Willoughby Road next to Elizabeth Shelton School will be open that same week. Hours are weekdays from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday, May 4 from 7 a.m.-noon.

Residents bringing leaves to the compost site in containers or bags other than biodegradable paper bags must remove the non-conforming containers or bags from the site.

All brush should be brought to the transfer station, 866 River Road, which is open  7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. weekly.
