Benchmark started construction March 2013 and will be open May 2014.

Benchmark Senior Living community will break ground at its new location, 708A Bridgeport Ave., on Tuesday.

The community will be a three-story LEED certified state-of-the-art building including amenities such as a bistro/pub, computer lounge with wireless access throughout, age-appropriate exercise room, beauty salon with spa and wellness/treatment suite.

This $25 million construction project will bring 250 jobs to the area and when completed will employ 85 people. Benchmark at Shelton Ridge will have 92 apartments — 72 traditional assisted living and 20 for those needing memory care in a secured neighborhood.

“Shelton is a town with strong market fundamentals including a growing population of both seniors and their adult children,” said Laurie Rodman, senior director of community marketing in an email to the Shelton Herald.

“Combined with compelling demographics and limited senior housing options, it presents an ideal locale for a new purpose-built assisted living community,” Rodman said.

Benchmark Senior Living currently owns and operates 16 senior living communities in Connecticut, includingCarriage Green at Milford, Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull, Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven, and Ridgefield Crossings.
