Shelton resident is featured in hospital report

“Making Connections” is the theme of a Bridgeport Hospital Foundation annual fund-raising report, which features four vignettes about grateful patients or families and the hospital staff members they chose to recognize through the foundation’s Honor Your Caregiver program.

Edward McCreery III of Shelton, right, is shown with Emergency Department Director Anita Shrum and Charles Staples.

These individuals include Edward McCreery III of Shelton, son of Orthopedic Specialty Group founder and Trumbull resident Dr. Edward McCreery, who honored Emergency Department Director Anita Shrum for the compassionate care she provided to his dying mother and their family.

Bridgeport Hospital’s Bill Jennings, president and CEO, and Steve Jakab, foundation president, wrote in the report’s introduction that philanthropy is more important than ever due to “looming reductions in the level of government funding to help care for our poorest patients … Thanks to our donors, we have been able to sustain and even expand badly needed healthcare services for our patients and community.”

They said through the Honor Your Caregiver program, former patients and their families express their gratitude by making donations to honor a hospital caregiver who touched their lives in a special way.
