Three arrested in Shelton for knifepoint robbery attempt in Monroe

Three people were arrested in Shelton on June 13 after a failed knife-point robbery attempt at the Village Square Mobil in Monroe that police say occurred around 12:42 p.m. that day.

Nicholas Debenedetto, 20, of Shelton, Nicholas Buchanan, 18, of Shelton, and Allison Holsworth, 18, of Prospect all face charges.

Police say a man who had just made a purchase inside the convenience store when he was approached by a knife wielding man who threatened to kill him and demanded “everything he had.”

The victim pushed the man, later identified as Debenedetto, and was able to get away.

Debenedetto then walked to his car, which was allegedly operated by Buchanan, who the victim told police he had seen in the store.

The victim saw a woman in the back seat who police say was Holsworth.

The victim called 911 and the three fled in their car.

When police got there, the suspects were not in sight, but they were able to determine it was headed in the direction of Shelton. Shelton police were alerted and dispatched units to the area where they were expected to be headed.

Shelton police found the car in front of Debenedetto’s home on Theodore Road in Shelton and detained all three individuals until Monroe police arrived to arrest them.

Monroe police said they found a black-handled spring-loaded knife from Debenedetto, as well as multiple bags of a substance that they believe is marijuana and a bottle of pills.

All three face charges of first degree conspiracy to commit robbery, but Debenedetto faces many more charges, including:

  • Carrying a dangerous weapon
  • Breach of peace
  • Illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription, dispensing any controlled substance
  • Illegal possession of a controlled substance near a school
  • Possession of narcotics
  • Possession of less than four ounces of marijuana
  • Failure to keep a drug in its original container.

Buchanan posted a $1,000 bond and has a June 21 court date. Holsworth posted a $500 bond and has a June 21 court date.

Debenedetto was held on a $10,000 bond and was due in court June 14.
