The Outstanding Corporate Partner Award was presented to Gexpro, a Shelton-based electrical supplies company, and the Whole School Partner Award was given to Perry Hill School.

Gexpro has provided significant financial, volunteer and leadership support to JA. The company is part of Rexel Holdings USA.

Accepting the award on behalf of Gexpro was Jim Hibberd, Gexpro senior vice president and general manager, and Bradford Greene, Rexel Holdings USA vice president of human resources and a member of the JA governing board.

‘JA in a Day’ at Perry Hill

The Perry Hill School award was presented to Principal Lorraine Williams for implementing “JA in a Day” for the past three years. Business and community volunteers visit the school to teach more than 850 fifth and sixth grade students JA programs in one day.

Williams, her staff and the PTO help support the program.

Bernadine Venditto, JA president, said the past school year “has been a great one for Junior Achievement here in the Valley. We are so grateful to the support of the community and all our volunteers. We could not continue without them.”

Held in Scinto Auditorium

The recognition breakfast was held on June 18 in the R.D. Scinto Auditorium in Shelton. Robert Scinto is a JA governing board member. The event awards extraordinary corporate and school support.

Event sponsors were Shelton-based Real Estate Two and Riverview Funeral Home.

JA provides programs on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship for students from kindergarten to high school. Corporate and community volunteers offer guidance to help youngsters make smart academic and economic choices.

Today, JA reaches more than 4.2 million students annually in the United States and an additional 6.5 million students in other countries. Go to www.ja.org for details.
