Shelton Police charge man with negligent homicide

Today James Steinmetz, 34, of Monroe, was arrested on a warrant in connection with a motor vehicle accident  that happened on July 8, 2012. Steinmetz was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, and failure to yield while turning left.

Steinmetz was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Derby Court on July 23.

In July 2012, Shelton Police responded to a motor vehicle vs. motorcycle accident on Leavenworth Road at the driveway entrance to KellyNickLLC and Mont’s Mart.

Shelton Police, Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The driver of the motorcycle, Adam Haydu, 30, of Monroe, received life-threatening injuries, and died 11 days later.

Steinmetz, the driver of the vehicle, received minor injuries police said, but was not transported to the hospital for any treatment. There were no other occupants in the car or on the motorcycle.

Both the vehicle and the motorcycle sustained extensive damage.
