A band that specializes in rock songs from the 1960s to today will perform tonight, Wednesday, July 10, at the Huntington Green in Shelton.

The free outdoor concert with The Navels will go from 7-9 p.m. It is part of the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department’s weekly Music Under the Stars concert series. Call 203-331-4120 in case of inclement weather.

From The Beatles to Sheryl Crow

The Navels specialize in cover songs from the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s as well as hits from today. This includes classic rock, disco, and Motown, such as ballads by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Sheryl Crow and The Go Go’s.

The band plays the type of music designed to encourage people to dance and sing along.

“What makes us different from any other band is that we get you and your guests involved,” states The Navels website (thenavels.com). “We encourage people to ‘join us’ on stage. Whether it is singing background vocals, playing tambourine, banging on the congas, playing the guitar or drums….you’re in the band. It’s rock band, Guitar Hero and karaoke on steroids.”

Have performed at many venues

According to the band’s website, The Navels have performed at thousands of events to crowds as large as 7,500 people — and at venues as far away as Cape Cod.

The band also plays regularly at many local restaurants and clubs.

About the concerts

People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to the Huntington Green for the concert. Food items also are sold by vendors and nearby businesses.

The summer concert series is presented by the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department with the help of private sponsors.

“This is one of the best line-ups of quality bands we’ve ever had,” Dave Zamba, Gazebo Committee chairman, said of this year’s concert schedule. “There is something for everyone.”
