Afternoon Knitters — Wednesdays, July 17 and 24, 1 p.m. Local knitters, new members welcome; meets in main floor reading room for the summer.

 

Castles & Dragons — Wednesday, July 17, 1:30 p.m. Kim Larkin brings the world of fantasy as kids 4 and older create castles. All supplies and tools provided, but dress for mess; space is limited, tickets available in Children’s Room after 1 p.m. the day of the program.

 

4/6 READ! — Wednesday, July 17, 6:30 p.m. Book discussion over snacks for kids entering fourth through sixth grades; copies of books available at registration, bring a friend.

 

Digging into AlphaBits — Thursdays, July 18 and 25, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them kindergarten ready; drop in session, siblings welcome.

 

Teen Masks — Thursday, July 18, 2 p.m. Teens add finishing touches to masquerade costumes (even if you are not attending the August ball). Supplies provided or bring your own, plan on mess. Drop in; for teens 13-19.

 

Stay & Play — Fridays, July 19 and 26, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.

 

Teen Book Club — Friday, July 19, 12:30 p.m. Drop in for a quick lunch and discuss Stiff by Mary Roach; for teens 13-19 (qualifies as one of SHS required books); multiple copies available in the Teen Room.

 

Plumb Page Turners — Monday, July 22, 6 p.m. The Magic Tree House series inspires this book discussion group for kids 5-9; book based activity included, new members welcome, multiple copies available.

 

knit! — Tuesdays, July 23 and 30, 6 p.m. Knitters meet to share and support.

 

Family Games Day! — Tuesday, July 23, 9–4 p.m. All day marathon of puzzles for all ages; fit in a piece and get a raffle ticket.

 

Card Games Galore — Tuesday, July 23, 1:30 p.m. Learn card games, take home a deck of cards and game sheet for more fun at home or away, all ages welcome to drop in.

 

Kids in the Kitchen — Tuesday, July 23, 6 p.m. Personalized pizzas are on the menu as kids 3 and older learn basic kitchen skills, then practice them making edible projects. Dress for mess, be aware of possible allergies; adults help with prep work.

 

Robot, Go Bot — Wednesday, July 24, 1:30 p.m. Author Dana Meacham Rau brings a workshop featuring writing and robot creation for kids of all ages. Space is limited, tickets available in the Children’s Room after 1 p.m. the day of the event.

 

Library Lego Club — Wednesday, July 24, 6 p.m. Free drop in session for kids 3-12; this month’s challenge theme “Construction” will be displayed for the next month, each creation labeled with title plus builder’s name and age. No personal Legos, and library’s Legos do not go home.

 

Teens Booked for Lunch — Thursday, July 25, 12:30 p.m. Drop in for a quick lunch and discuss Croak by Gina Damico. Lex’s uncle is a Grim Reaper delivering souls to the next world, where will the family business lead her? Multiple copies of both titles available in the Teen Room.

 

Teen Volunteer Orientation — Friday, July 26, 12:30 p.m. Teens 12 to 19 get details preparing them to earn community service hours, parents are expected to attend; court or disciplinary board assignments are not eligible.

 

Teen Advisory Board — Friday, July 26, 3 p.m. Teens 13 to 19 discuss plans and ideas for library programs, collection and décor; snacks; bring a friend.

 

Summer Saturday Closings — Plumb Library closed on Saturdays until after Labor Day. The branch remains open Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of July.

 

Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch at 203-926-0111. A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
