The Vibes to offer music, arts, activities at waterfront park

The Gathering of the Vibes music, arts and camping festival will take place July 25-28 at Seaside Park, a 380-acre waterfront venue in Bridgeport.

The 18th Vibes event will feature 40 bands, food and craft vendors, Kids Corner, the School of Rock Teen Vibes Stage, and a Sustainability Village that highlights local and national nonprofit organizations.

The 2013 artist line-up includes two nights of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh & Friends, featuring John Scofield and John Medeski.

Activities for all ages

Organizers said there will be activities for the entire family. Children and teens can visit the Kids Corner and Teen Scene for face painting, hair wraps, arts and crafts, photo booth, dancing with life-sized puppets, and trips to the BioBus.

Young guests also will be able to ride the 85-foot-high Ferris wheel, or jam on professional equipment with musicians from the Green Vibes and Main stages at the School of Rock Stage.

Sunday, July 28 will be Family Day at the Gathering of the Vibes, with a world peace ceremony, puppet parade, and a chance to learn about production, sound and lighting from Vibes production pros.

From 9 a.m. to sundown on Sunday, children ages 15 and younger will be admitted free when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Organizers said in 2012, more than 2,000 youngsters under age 15 attended the Vibes.

“Creating an event the whole family can enjoy, is always a driving force behind our planning,” said Vibes founder Ken Hays. “We work year-round to create the most favorable conditions for people of all ages to bond and create lifelong memories.”

 

Pricing and information

Shelton-Vibes-LogoWeekend camping passes now are priced at $225, with special VIP passes including catered meals and a special viewing platform available for an added cost. Single-day admission tickets also can be purchased.
