Fishing report – ‘Crazy’ bass action in both Valley rivers

Bass fishing is picking up across the state, according to the latest Department of Energy and Environmental Protection fishing report.

Shelton-Fishing-PoleFIAccording to DEEP, the action for largemouth bass is good to very good in most areas.

Smallmouth bass are not biting as much in lakes and ponds, but anglers are reporting action in rivers as “active and crazy.” Conditions in the Housatonic River is excellent, with the Naugatuck also reporting lots of smallmouth catches as the flow rates dropped and the heat set in.

Catfishing has been reported as slow statewide. Panfish, however, have been biting bobbers and worms, grubs and small shiners. Target the shallows and remember, sunnies are a great introduction to angling for youth.

Trout fishing on the Housatonic has been reported as good. Flows are clear and moderate. Heat is stressful to trout, so take care in handling fish that are going to be released.
