Shelton-TrapFalls-Multi2

Multicultural Magnet School students interact with Trap Falls Kennel Club President Laura Wells of Shelton, center, and club member Dona Campbell, who is with one of her therapy dogs, Hannah.

The Shelton-based Trap Falls Kennel Club will sponsor Responsible Dog Ownership Day, an annual American Kennel Club (AKC) event, on Sunday Sept. 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Warsaw Park in Ansonia.

The local event, known as Pawz in the Park, will focus on proper dog training, healthcare and feeding; Best Dressed and Best Trick contests; obedience and rally matches, Canine Good Citizen testing; obedience, agility and police dog demonstrations; and Meet the Breeds.

Additionally, there will be a low-cost microchipping clinic and veterinarians will be on hand to offer health tips and advice.

The event also will feature food, vendors, a pet photographer and raffles.

Free and open to the public

Pawz in the Park is free to the public and their leashed dogs. Attendees are encouraged to bring donation items for local animal shelters, and those who bring such items will receive a free raffle ticket.

All event proceeds will go to local shelters and police canine funds.

On Aug. 19, to help bring attention to the upcoming event, Ansonia Mayor James Della Volpe will sign a proclamation declaring Sept. 15 as Responsible Dog Ownership Day.

Trap Falls Kennel Club is an AKC member club. Learn more about the club at TrapFalls.org, or read a Shelton Herald feature story on the club at https://sheltonherald.com/20228/20228/
