Afternoon Knitters — Wednesdays, Aug. 14 and 21, 1 p.m. Local knitters, new members welcome; meets in main floor reading room for the summer.

 

Bubble Trouble — Wednesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m. Jeff Boyer’s one man bubble extravaganza for kids 4 and older; space is limited, tickets available in the Children’s Room after 5 p.m. the day of the event.

 

Alter Ego — Thursday, Aug. 15, 2 p.m. Teens 13–19 don disguises featuring face painting by local teen Samantha Lewis.

 

It’s a Party! — Thursday, Aug. 15, 6:30 p.m. the Adult Summer Reading Club at both Shelton libraries draws to an end for another year with refreshments, door prizes and gift certificates from local businesses. Special tastings from Dana Joy, maker of quiches and author of Dana’s Famous Quiche Cookbook. There is still time to enter – 1-2-3: read a book, write a quick survey form, drop it into the big tub and be entered in a drawing for prizes; sponsored by the Friends of the Shelton Libraries.

 

Stay & Play — Fridays, Aug. 16 and 23, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.

 

Teens Booked for Lunch — Friday, Aug. 16, 12:30 p.m. Drop in for a quick lunch and discuss Karen Healey’s Guardian of the Dead. This reading list title meets SHS summer reading requirement; multiple copies available in the Teen Room; lunch provided in this free program.

 

knit! — Tuesdays, Aug. 20 and 27, 6 p.m. Knitters meet to share and support.

 

Kids in the Kitchen — Tuesday, Aug. 20, 6 p.m. Home-made ice cream. Kids 3 and older bring clean winter gloves for the icy part of this annual food project, dress for mess, be aware of possible allergies; adults help with prep work.

 

Bon Voyage Summer — Wednesday, Aug. 21, 6 p.m. All children who took part in the Kids Summer Reading Club are welcome to build ice cream sundaes and be entertained by local magician Brian Lizotte. Special prize drawings for kids who meet the 8 book challenge, there is still time to finish.

 

Digging into AlphaBits — Thursdays, Aug. 22 and 29, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them kindergarten ready; drop in session, siblings welcome.

 

Teen Booked for Lunch — Thursday, Aug. 22, 12:30 p.m. Teens 13-19 discuss Insignia by S.J. Kincaid, a futuristic look at a video gamer teen changing the course of history in WWIII as an elite military academy trainee and government secret weapon; multiple copies available in the Teen Room, lunch provided.

 

Party Prep for Teens — Thursday, Aug. 22, 2  p.m. Teens 13-19 create  treats for teen party on Friday.

 

Teen Masquerade of Horror — Friday, Aug. 23, 8 p.m. to midnight. Teens who have read and reported on at least 3 books are invited to attend this Masquerade Ball. This invitation-only event celebrates fun, fear and food. For teens 13-19 who have completed the Summer Reading program at either library branch.

 

Plumb Page Turners – Monday Aug. 26, 6 p.m. Children 5-9 years old discuss books from Magic Tree House series, then make a craft and share a snack; copies of the books available.

 

Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch at 203-926-0111. A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
