The 2013 test results are in and Shelton students achieved higher than state average on the statewide achievement tests. This past spring, students in third through eighth grade took the CMTs and students in 10th grade took the CAPTs.
The Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) results were mixed across the grades — most did the same or nearly the same as the previous year, according to the proficiency results.
For the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT), students had higher scores in reading, but dipped in math, reading and writing, according to the proficiency results.
In Shelton, students earned 88.3% proficiency in math, lower than the 90.2% earned in 2012. State average, students earned 78.6% this year and 78.8% in 2012.
In science, Shelton students earned 90.7% proficiency in 2013, lower than the 92.2% received in 2012. The state average had students earning 81.7% this year, and 80.2% in 2012.
For reading, scores in Shelton rose. In 2013, students earned 92.7% proficiency, compared with 87.4% in 2012. Statewide, students received 81% in 2013, compared with 80.9% in 2012.
In writing, students received 92.9% in 2013, and 95.9% in 2012. Statewide, students received 88.9% in 2013, and 88.8% in 2012.
For 2013, students in eighth grade had higher results across the board compared to 2012.
In proficiency, this year’s results showed 95.2% in math, 94.7% in reading, 93% in writing and 81% in science. Last year, students earned 93.8% in math, 90.3% in reading, 91.5% in writing, and in science students received 79.4%.
Statewide in 2013, students received 86.1% in math, 85.7% in reading as well as writing. In 2012, students received 87.1% in math, 86.2% in writing and reading, and 77.1% in science.
Math and writing results went up, while reading went down in 2013, compared to last year’s results.
This year’s results in at/above proficiency were: 95.6% in math, 92.8% in reading and 94.9% in writing. Last year’s proficiency results were: 94.8% in math, 95.3% in reading and 90.9% in writing.
Statewide in 2013, students received 84.9% in math, 87% in reading and 83.2% in writing. Last year, students received 86.7% in math, 87.4% in reading and 83.9% in writing proficiency.
Proficiency results went down slightly from last year.
This year’s results in Shelton at/above proficiency were: 94.2% in math, 92.6% in reading and 91.6% in writing. Last year’s results: 94.1% in math, 94% in reading and 91.8% in writing.
Statewide in 2013 the results at/above proficiency: 85.9% in math, 84.5% in reading and 84.3% in writing. In 2012, results were: 87.2% in math, 84.8% in reading and 84.9% in writing proficiency.
Results in math and writing proficiency went up. In reading, results went slightly down for fifth graders.
In Shelton in 2013, results at/above proficiency were: 91.3% in math, 85.1% in reading and 94.4% in writing. In 2012 results were: 89.6% in math, 87.7% in reading and 93.4% in writing.
Statewide in 2013, results in proficiency were: 84.4% in math, 79.1% in reading and 87.7% in writing. In 2012, results were: 85.7% in math, 79.7% in reading and 85.7% in math.
Results across the board were lower this year compared to last year’s test results in fourth grade.
In Shelton in 2013 scores for at/above proficiency were: 91.1% in math, 88% in reading and 91.8% in writing. This past year, results were 94.3% in math, 88.5% in reading and 92.7% in writing.
Statewide in 2013, results in proficiency were: 83.8% in math, 77.6% in reading and 83.5% in writing. In 2012, results were: 85.8% in math, 78.3% in reading and 83.7% in writing.
Results were higher across the board for third graders this year compared with last year’s results.
