The city of Shelton initiated additional brownfield cleanup activities this week on the property. The work, funded in part by a federal EPA grant, is being managed by the Shelton Economic Development Corp. and overseen by an environmental consultant, AECOM.

Existing soils contaminated from prior industrial uses are being removed and replaced with clean gravel and topsoil as part of an interim step toward a final remedy. An extension of the existing public Riverwalk is expected to be part of the future site use.
