Cumberland Farms employee still in critical condition

UPDATE — David Hasselhoff, spokesperson for Cumberland Farms iced coffee tweeted his sympathy for the store employee who was injured during a theft of a sign with his image on it.

UPDATE Wednesday — A person has come forward to police and admitted their involvement in the incident at Cumberland Farms yesterday. The male, 19, who was allegedly the driver of the vehicle, is cooperating with police in the investigation. No arrests have been made at this point.Detectives are continuing their investigation at this time.

Story from Tuesday

On Tuesday morning, around 1:15, Shelton Police received a 9-1-1 call stating that a male in the parking lot of Cumberland Farms at 819 River Road, was struck by a motor vehicle. Police and EMS responded to the scene and located the 36-year-old male victim. The victim, who is an employee at Cumberland Farms, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The initial investigation revealed that a black SUV pulled into the lot of Cumberland Farms. The victim later observed a white male get out of the vehicle and cut two David Hasselhoff advertisement signs off of a light pole.

The male then put the signs in the back of the vehicle. The victim approached the vehicle in an attempt to get the signs back. The vehicle then sped away and the victim was dragged and then he spun around and flipped backwards landing on his head. The vehicle headed on River Road towards Stratford.

Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance video and speaking with witnesses. Police are looking for a black SUV with a white male driver, a white female in the front passenger seat, and a white male in the back seat. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact the detective bureau at 203-924-1544.
