Margaret Blanco, 14, of Shelton won the Audience Choice Award in the teen division during a Quassy Amusement Park singing competition this summer.

“She was proud to represent Shelton,” family members said. “She lit up the stage every week.”

Margaret has been singing since she was age 2. She is the daughter of Joanne and Jeff Blanco.

Quassy is an amusement park on a lake in Middlebury, near Waterbury.

Granddad was a singer, too

Family members said music has always been a passion of hers, following in the tradition of her late grandfather, Paul Blanco.

Margaret likes to sing all types of music. Recently she has performed the songs “Respect,” “Yesterday” by the Beatles, and “Ava Maria” in Latin.

“This is just the beginning for her,” family members said. “She plans to take this all the way. As her grandfather would say, ‘Keep reaching for the stars.’”
