A 15-piece swing band will perform Thursday evening in this summer’s last Music Under the Stars concert on the Huntington Green in Shelton.
The Little Big Band will perform from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29. The concert originally had been scheduled for Wednesday but then was canceled due to the potential for thunderstorms. Cancellation decisions have to be made in the afternoon, a few hours before show time.
The band’s repertoire includes popular swing and Big Band music — from traditional standards through today’s contemporary sounds — as well as some old-time rock ’n’ roll, jazz, and rhythm and blues.
The outdoor show is free and open to the public. In case of inclement weather, call 203-331-4120 to find out if the performance will go on as scheduled.
People are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to the Huntington Green. Food trucks and nearby food establishments also will be available.
A weekly concert series
The performance is part of a weekly summer concert series by the Shelton Parks and Recreation Department.
The 2013 season featured 10 shows weekly from late June to late August, plus a children’s performance. It is presented by Parks & Rec with the support of private sponsors.
From fairs to weddings
According to the band’s publicity material, the Little Big Band performs music that appeals to a wide range of audiences at concerts, fairs, dances, benefit events, parties and weddings.
“From a one-hour summer concert to an all day event, the Little Big Band delights everyone with a unique blend of personality and great music,” states the band’s website, the littlebigband.com.
The band’s summer schedule this year includes outdoor shows in many towns in eastern Connecticut, such as Manchester, Putnam, Willimantic and Woodstock.
