Trudi Curreri of Shelton was having a grand time during an outdoor dance at the Rotary Club pavilion in Veterans Memorial Park.
“It’s such a beautiful event to be out here for,” Curreri said, “I’ve been wanting to hear Vinnie Carr.”
Carr, a well-known local musician, was playing old dance tunes for the group of assembled seniors at the downtown park that includes the Riverwalk.
Carr was singing and playing the keyboards, bringing back memories in the process for many of those in the crowd. He performed line and ballroom dance songs.
The annual senior dance is organized by the Shelton Senior Center.
‘They love to dance’
“You couldn’t ask for better weather,” said Doreen Laucella, who works at the Shelton Senior Center, while observing others on the dance floor. “They love to dance — to do their little dance steps.”
Among those hitting the dance floor was George Ryan of Shelton, one of the founders of Curtiss-Ryan Honda, the event’s sponsor. He was dancing with his wife Beatrice while not busy socializing with others at the event.
Ryan likes to spend time at the senior center, and also made a contribution to help build the Rotary Club pavilion in the park.
“This is something we needed on a good summer night like this — a place where people could go,” Ryan said of the new landmark structure near the waterfront.
