Blood pressure screenings

Stroke support

Bridgeport Hospital’s Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers will host a free Stroke Support Group meeting for recovering stroke patients and their caregivers Tuesday, Sept. 3, 6-7, Shelton outreach site, 4 Corporate Drive, 203-925-4201.

Greenway Walk-a-Thon for Griffin

The Polish Falcons of America, Nests 208 and 36, will host the fourth annual 2013 Derby Greenway Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Griffin Hospital Center for Cancer Care Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. The 3.56 mile walk will start at the entry to the Greenway on Division Street in Derby and will circle through to Shelton and back again. Following the walk, refreshments will be served at the Polish Falcons Nest 36, 108 Central Street, Ansonia. Cost is $20 for advance registration (before Sept. 10), and $25 on the day of the event, PFAGreenwayWalkAThon.com.

Addiction support

Are you dealing with an addiction in your life or the life of a family member? Higher Ground Ministry is non-denominational offering help that is permanent through biblical truths. Weekly meetings are held where one receives support, encouragement and spiritual guidance. Weight-loss surgery support

Griffin Bariatrics, a new program of Griffin Hospital, will host weight loss surgery support group meetings the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Griffin Imaging & Diagnostics Center at Ivy Brook, 2 Ivy Brook Road, Shelton. To help bariatric patients bridge the gap between the time of surgery and reaching their healthy weight, Griffin Bariatrics has assembled a Clothes Closet with men’s and women’s clothing in barely worn or new condition, which has been donated by bariatric patients and hospital staff and family members.
