Shelton bakery to host Scarecrow Festival on Sept. 14

Oronoque Farms on Route 110 in Shelton will have a Scarecrow Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Fall season activities will include making scarecrows, face painting, and a rainbow loom workshop. Cost is $20 for all the items needed to make a scarecrow.

Rain date is Sept. 15. Oronoque Farms is at 186 Leavenworth Road (Route 110), Shelton. For information call 203-925-4237 or go to oronoquefarms.com.

 

Business began in 1949

The business began as Oronoque Orchards in 1949. Betty Winton would make apple pies with her recipe and sell them at a weekend farmstand in Stratford.

Her daughter, Susan Winton, opened the Shelton business in 1993 — eight years after the original bakery in Stratford had been destroyed by a fire.

In 2011 and 2012, Oronoque Farms was voted as having the Best Apple Pie in the state by Connecticut magazine.
