Beardsley’s Cider Mill hosts Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Shelton-BeardsleyLemonade

Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard on Route 110 in Shelton will host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Saturday and Sunday to benefit childhood cancer research.

Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard in Shelton will host its eighth annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand to help fight childhood cancer from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15. The cider mill is at 278 Leavenworth Road (Route 110).

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is a nonprofit organization that has evolved from a young cancer patient’s front-yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fund-raising movement for childhood cancer.

For four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alexandra “Alex” Scott hosted an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research.

More than $60 million raised for research

Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands have been set up across the country by children, schools, businesses and organizations to benefit ALSF. To date, more than $60 million has been raised to funding over 300 medical research projects.

Alex died in 2004, but her giving spirit remains the driving force behind the foundation she established. ALSF supports childhood cancer research with a focus on improving the availability of new treatments for children currently undergoing treatments.

Reaching out to the community

By hosting an Alex’s Lemonade Stand at Beardsley’s Cider Mill, the hope is to get the community to come out and enjoy some lemonade, find out more about ALSF, and make a donation.

Beardsley’s Cider Mill and Orchard also will offer fresh-pressed cider, apples, cider doughnuts, cookies, local honey, maple syrup and maple candy, jams and jellies, fruit butters, pumpkin cheesecake, farm-baked pies and unique gifts.

During the weekend, 100% of the lemonade donations and a portion of the cider mill’s profits will be sent directly to ALSF.
