Football: Shelton routing Trumbull

The Shelton High football team led visiting Trumbull High, 49-0, at halftime in Thursday night’s season-opener at Finn Stadium when the game was postponed due to lightning in the area.

Play will resume today at 4 p.m.

Quarterback Mark Piccirillo led the charge for coach Jeff Roy’s Gaels, rushing for three touchdowns and throwing two more. The junior signal-caller carried 12 times for 134 yards in the first half, scoring on runs of 13, 51 and nine yards. He also completed 4-of-6 passes for 83 yards — including a 29-yard strike to Kyle Drost and a 31-yarder to Jason Thompson.
