The Southern Connecticut Women’s Expo will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22, at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Times are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on both days.
Up to 4,000 people are expected to attend the weekend event to take in more than 250 exhibits, including free health screenings, lectures, shopping, fitness, fashion and makeovers.
It is being presented by St. Vincent’s Health Services, which operates St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport and other medical facilities.
A few celebrities will be present at the expo. Galen Gering, who plays Rafe Hernandez on the soap opera “Days of our Lives,” will meet fans and sign autographs on Saturday and Sunday from noon-4 p.m. The WWE’s Diva Natalya will sign personalized photos on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.
Beauty makeovers to free food samples
Some of the other attractions will include beauty makeovers, live demonstrations, prize giveaways, pet adoption and psychic readings. There will be plenty of food, with free samples, recipes and nutrition advice.
Free health screenings by St. Vincent’s Medical Center at the event will include cardiac/stroke risk assessment, body fat analysis, cholesterol and glucose screenings, pulmonary function, facial skin analysis and free mammography screenings.
Physicians from St. Vincent’s will present free lectures covering topics such as pregnancy and childbirth, genetics testing, weight-loss surgery, managing headaches, and thyroid disease.
Admission cost, other details
Admission is $10. Children age 12 and younger are free, as is the parking. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound.
