Happening at Plumb: Art, knitting and more

Afternoon Knitters — Wednesdays, Oct. 2 and 9, 1 p.m. Local knitters, new members welcome; meets in main floor reading room for the summer.

AlphaBits — Thursdays, Oct. 3 and 10, 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and caregivers work on learning skills to make them kindergarten ready; drop in, siblings welcome.

Stay & Play — Fridays, Oct. 4 and 11, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.

Teens Booked for Lunch — Saturday, Oct. 5, 12:30 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for discussion over a quick lunch. No registration, pick up a copy in the teen room at the library.

Teen Boost — Saturday, Oct. 5, 1:45 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for cooking, crafts and more. Call 203-924-9461 for details, or just drop in and be surprised.

Library Lego Club — Saturday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m. Kids 3-12, drop-in and create original constructions using LEGOs/ Duplos provided by the library. Each child’s creation goes on display until the next club meeting.  Library Legos/ Duplos do not go home and no personal Legos/Duplos.

Teen Movie Critics — Saturday, Oct. 5, 3 p.m., ages 13-19 drop in to watch and critique movies of all ages and genres. A small dinner provided.

Budding Bookworms — Monday, Oct. 7, 10:30 a.m. A themed drop in story and craft time for kids 1-5 years old and their caregivers.

Reading Detectives — Monday, Oct. 7, 6 p.m., children in grades K-4 join school librarian Miss Kathi sharing the educational weekly themes for story and discussion, plus make-and-take projects to reinforce reading skills taught and tested for in school every day: Sequencing, predicting, contrast and comparison, character traits, setting, inference, personal connections. Drop in, no registration, sign up at desk for reminder email notices.

Fun for Little Ones — Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and 15, 10 a.m. Mrs. Fritsch offers stories, songs and movement for babies and toddlers up to age 2 in this engaging and entertaining drop-in program; siblings welcome.

Plumb Picassos — Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and 15, 2 p.m. A drop in art based story time explores art through picture books and then kids create original pieces, Freezer Dance and play “Miss Maura Says.”

FOTSL Book Sale Meeting — Tuesday, Oct. 8, 5:30 p.m. Committee discusses plans for upcoming book sale at Plumb, Oct. 25-27; new volunteers welcome.

knit! — Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and 15, 6 p.m. Knitters meet to share and support.

Kids in the Kitchen — Wednesday, Oct. 9, 6 p.m. Celebrate bread by making, baking, cooking and tasting for kids 3 and older; adults help too, dress for mess.

Valley 2-D Art — Thursday, Oct.10, 5 p.m. Drop in workshop for adults interested in painting, sketching and simple crafting; space to spread out and kindred spirits to encourage and critique. New members welcome.

Library Home School Network — Friday. Oct. 11, 2 p.m. Open drop in session for families actively home schooling their children or considering becoming involved; exploration of library resources, refreshments.

1000 Books Before K — Family reading program – information and supplies all provided at sign-up. To encourage families to read together, with the help of the Shelton School Readiness Council and Friends of the Shelton Libraries the Plumb Library is offering support for tracking all 1000 books plus rewards and prizes along the way. Funding from the Valley Community Foundation supports this new adventure.

On display — Miniature porcelain boxes: Limoges works of art in painted porcelain plus china imitations of the antiques from a local collector; Roseville, McCoy – pottery, real thing or lookalikes?

Home Delivery — Shelton residents who cannot get to the library due to temporary or permanent disability are welcome to apply for home delivery of library materials. Contact the branch at 203-926-0111). A project underwritten with support from the Friends of the Library and the Valley Community Foundation.
