Shelton jeweler receives professional distinction in Belgium

The owner of Marks of Design in downtown Shelton is celebrating 10 years of traveling to Antwerp, Belgium, the diamond-cutting capital of the world.

Store owner Kate Marks, a jeweler and certified gemologist, has worked 27 years in the jewelry industry, including 14 years at her Howe Avenue location.

She is a local diamond importer and a member of the Retail Jeweler’s Organization (RJO), an international jewelry buying group.

Marks will soon travel to Antwerp again to buy an extensive variety of diamonds directly from master diamond cutters for her customers.

While attending her 10th trip, she will receive the distinction of World Wide Diamond Importer from RJO Inc.

As part of the celebration, a cocktail party will take place Thursday, Oct. 3 from 4-7:30 p.m. at Marks of Design, 500-D Howe Ave., Shelton. Belgian chocolates and beer will be available for customers and other guests.
