Needing a sweep to secure the Valley Independent Softball League Division 1 regular season championship, Boland’s Cafe made it mission accomplished with 16-4 and 26-3 triumphs over Benanto Real Estate.
In the opener, Benanto tallied twice in the top of the first inning, before Boland’s answered with six in their half of the frame.
After adding a single run in the second, Boland’s ensured the victory with a seven-run third.
Winning pitcher Mike Biga went 4-for-4 to lead the Boland attack.
Burt Posca banged out three hits, while Rob Rotato, Mark Costanzo and Chuck Osborne notched a pair each.
Matt Thomas and Fred Maler were best for Benanto with two hits apiece.
Boland’s took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, made it 5-0 in the second before exploding for 10 in the third and 11 more in the fourth to roll to the title-clinching triumph.
Omar Resto, Costanzo and Osborne led the way at the plate with four base hits apiece.
Tom Soda and Ben Bartone garnered a pair of hits each for the Realtors.
In earlier action, Boland’s scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to snatch a victory from Bar 140 10-9 in the opener of their doubleheader.
Boland’s threatened to come from behind again in the nightcap, before Bar 140 snagged the final two outs of the game with the bases loaded to preserve an 11-10 win.
The fourth-seeded Ghostbusters surprised regular-season champion Connelly Construction 7-6 to earn one of the berths in the Division 2 Post Season Tournament championship game.
The Meeting Place Restaurant claimed the other spot after thumping Jesse’s Barber Shop, 13-1.

A six-run fourth inning erased a four-run deficit and lifted the Ghostbusters on to a 14-7 win over Kut-Rite Hair Shop in the opening game of the Division 2 Tournament.
The Ghostbusters held the early edge 3-1, scoring three times in the first with two of the runs coming on a triple by Dave Facchini.
That lead stood up until the third, when Kut-Rite scored five times to go ahead 6-3. Joe Orlando delivered a two-run double to highlight the scoring.
Kut-Rite added one more in the top of the fourth, before the Ghostbusters turned the tide in their favor with their six-run outburst.
They then blanked Kut-Rite the rest of the way, while capping off the victory with a five-run sixth.
Facchini was the offensive leader for the Ghostbusters, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Rich Dow also had three hits, while Ryan Moran added a pair.
Pat Knauth provided the top defensive support for winning pitcher Tom Bell.
Mark Maas and Brian Valeri banged out three hits apiece for Kut-Rite.
Chris Kovacs and Jack Liedke had two each.
Paul Raymond was tagged with the mound loss.
