When will the city of Shelton pick up my leaves?

Brown paper biodegradable bags must be used for curbside collection

The first citywide curbside collection of bagged leaves will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 12 and end on Monday, Nov. 18

Shelton-LeafInFallThe last citywide curbside collection of bagged leaves will be begin on Monday, Dec. 2 and end Friday, Dec. 6.

Only brown paper biodegradable bags will be picked up. Bagged leaves should be placed at the curbside on the regular trash collection day. Be sure to keep leaf bags apart from regular trash at the curbside.

Bags should only contain leaves and not grass clippings, sticks, rocks, etc. Bags containing these items will not be accepted and will be left at curb.

In the event of a snowstorm, leaf bags still should be left out at the curbside and they will be collected as soon as possible.

 

Compost site schedule

During the fall season, the city-operated compost site on Willoughby Road, next to Elizabeth Shelton School, will be open from Oct. 28 to Dec. 7.

Compost site hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m.-noon.

The site will be closed Monday Nov. 11 for Veterans Day; and Thursday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving Day.

Anyone bringing leaves to the compost site in containers other than biodegradable paper bags must remove the non-conforming containers from the site.
