A ramp at Route 8/I-84 interchange to be closed at night

The exit ramp to Route 8 north from Interstate 84 westbound (Exit 20) in Waterbury is scheduled to be closed nightly from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. from Tuesday, Oct. 15 to Thursday, Oct. 17, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced.

The ramp closure is required to complete replacement of bridge joints on the structure.

The work consists of the removal of the existing bridge deck joints across the full width, and replacement with new concrete and asphaltic plug joints.

Detour onto local roads

Motorists will be detoured to Exit 18, which is West Main Street/Highland Avenue (going past the Route 8 intersection at first).

The detour will direct drivers onto Highland Avenue and then onto Chase Parkway, where they will re-enter I-84, heading eastbound this time, and get off at the Route 8 north ramp (Exit 20), which is a left exit.

The Route 8/Interstate 84 location is one of 13 bridges that are being completed as part of DOT Project No. 0174-0364 was awarded to Arborio Corp. at a cost of $2.28 million in July.

The scheduled completion date is Nov. 22, 2014.
