The state Department of Transportation has announced the start of work to replace bridge deck joints on two Route 8 bridges in Derby.
The nighttime work on the Route 34 on-ramps to Route 8 northbound could involve lane closures and possibly detours. Work is expected to begin Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Similar upgrades are taking place in Bethel (Route 6), Danbury (Route 7) and Waterbury (Interstate 84 and Route 8).
The work covers the replacement of the existing expansion joint systems and includes some concrete header repairs.
In Derby, the project involves:
— Bridge No. 00573A (Route 8 North on-ramp from Route 34 East)
— Bridge No. 00573B (Route 8 North on-ramp from Route 34 West)
Hours and lane closures
Most work will take place from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Lane closures will vary at each location as work progresses.
The Route 8 bridge work in Derby is part of DOT Project No. 0174-0364, which was awarded to Arborio Corp. at a cost of $2.28 million in July 26. Scheduled completion on the structures involved is November 2014.
