The Connecticut State Board of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) has recently elected Shelton resident Joseph A. Gintoli as its president.
Connecticut has approximately 1,300 IAABO members who are contracted to officiate all high school games, as well as adult and youth recreation programs.
Gintoli is a 35-year member of the Fairfield County Board of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.
His officiating career spanned 33 years as an active official, including 23 of those years as an NCAA college official.
At the high-school level, Gintoli officiated numerous championship games throughout Fairfield County from 1978-2006.
Those games include six Connecticut state high school championships.
At the college level, Gintoli worked multiple New England championships and officiated in five NCAA national tournaments.
He retired from active officiating in 2011.
Administratively, Gintoli has served in various leadership positions at the local, state and national levels of IAABO throughout his career. Along with his role as state board president, he presently serves as secretary/treasurer of the 280-member Fairfield County IAABO Board, a position he has held since 1997.
Nationally, he serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) as it’s New England Representative. IAABO has over 16,000 members worldwide.
