Merit program commends Shelton High students

Five Shelton High School seniors were honored for their wor been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Letters of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, were presented to Liam Cummings, Scott Sheldon, Victoria Begley and Patrick Murphy.

Alexandria Gumbs was recognized for as one of 31,000 Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue on the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarships, commended students placed in the top five% of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Alexandria scored in the top 3% of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Program when they took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT.
